How to rock red lipstick.

Posted on: July 29, 2009

Red lipstick, scary right? Awesome, but scary. Never thought you could pull it off? Well, you can, with just a little bit of help.

There are many different shades of red, the problem is choosing the right one.

There are many different shades of red, the problem is choosing the right one.

First of all you need to choose the right shade.

  • If you have pale skin you should probably go with a bright red to a pinkish red to keep from looking too severe. Stay away from dark or deep reds. Think Marilyn Monroe.
  • If you have pale to medium skin then deep or darker reds are perfect. Avoid bright reds, they’ll wash you out.
  • If you have medium to dark skin then dark, almost brown reds are good for you. Think Queen Latifa.

Secondly you need to make sure your lips are smooth. Apply a layer of lip balm before the lipstick.

Thirdly, line your lips before applying lipstick. This will keep your lipstick from running. Make sure the lip liner is exactly the same shade as the lipstick or you’ll look really, really stupid. To make sure you don’t choose the wrong color lip liner you can always just line your lips using clear powder and a q-tip.

And lastly, just put on your lipstick and admire.

Good tips. I also like to exfoliate the lips beforehand, and then use a lip primer for it to go on nice and smooth. Then I line the lips and even colour in my lips a little with the liner so if the lipstick does wear off you wont just have red outline ( I learned that the ugly way) lol
